Low2HighDH was initiated to help district heating owners and operators identify
practical pathways for integrating low-grade renewable energy and waste heat into
existing networks while maintaining reliable heat supply.
The three target countries started from different district heating contexts: Poland and
Slovakia remain strongly dependent on fossil fuels, while Lithuania has already
undergone a substantial transition towards renewable heat, predominantly biomass.
Despite these differences, all three face the challenge of adapting existing
high-temperature infrastructure so that lower-temperature renewable and recovered
